Episode 018 - Vulnerability is Dope. Mental Health & Making Diabetes Your Own With Jiggy Yoon
Trigger warning: Suicide-attempt mentioned inside of this episode.
A diagnosis of type one diabetes comes with a large mental load, especially with an adult onset.
Inside this episode, I sit down with Jiggy Yoon who has been a personal friend of mine for years (and years to come). Jiggy is the only Korean, lesbian, hip-hop dancing and rapping Type 1 Diabetic girl-who-lifts with tattoos, piercings, and who speaks so boldly of vulnerability.
We sit down and talk about the events leading up to her diagnosis that made handling type one diabetes even more difficult, how she chose to move forward and how she is rising above it all now.
INSIDE THE EPISODE:
Jiggy's type one journey and being diagnosed while at Penn State University
How Jiggy made the decision to love her diagnosis despite the odds.
Situations leading up to the diagnosis that caused burnout early on.
How Jiggy supports her clients in taking charge of their lives without toxic positivity or burnout

Lissie Poyner
Certified Health Coach, Personal Trainer & Founder of Needles and Spoons
Integrative Diabetes Health Coach, Certified Personal Trainer, owner of Needles and Spoons Health & Wellness, and creator Keeping It 100. I help overwhelmed people with Type One Diabetes just like you gain more predictability in their blood sugars so they can finally take their life plans off hold.
I was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 19, and to say that I was lost would be an understatement. In the years that followed my diagnosis, through trial, (a lot of) error, and education, I took my own A1C from a 7.1 to a consistent 5.7 and learned what it really takes to achieve predictability in my blood sugars. I also brought my Ulcerative Colitis into remission!
